Buy headphones, we plant a tree, and the world is saved!
Valco wants to come across as the good guys and sell a lot of headphones. Since others are doing this kind of thing nowadays, we decided to start our own environmental campaign. Of course, it's greenwashing when a company does something like this. No point in beating around the bush. Let's be honest. However, this is a good thing because it not only benefits the environment but also makes us money.
As part of this campaign, we aim to plant one tree seedling for every pair of headphones sold – this also applies to already sold pairs. We don't plant them as we sell the headphones, but in bulk (as plantings are done).
Unlike other companies' greenwashing campaigns, we go ourselves to the remote bogs and plant almost all the promised seedlings with our own hands. We can't afford to hire the youth organization of the Center Party, so we plant them ourselves and force our kids and family members to join in.
Okay, in addition to the seedlings we plant ourselves, we also have to source seedlings from elsewhere, we don't have the capacity for everything. This is because sales have exceeded expectations.
Valco's plantings began in spring 2021, and in the first summer alone, together with others, we have planted well over ten thousand tree seedlings, covering several hectares of forest. Of these, we planted about half with our own hands.
If everything goes well, we'll buy more land to plant and let it grow. There, squirrels can run freely and rabbits can mate peacefully.
10,000 tree seedlings = a lot of sequestered carbon dioxide
According to a study (Malmodin & Lundén, 2018), 320 million pairs of headphones are sold annually worldwide. Their total "carbon footprint" is 3.2 million tons of CO2 equivalent (or something like that). Based on this, a simple calculation shows that the carbon footprint of one pair of headphones is 10 kilograms. Correct us if we're wrong, math isn't our strong suit. You can see that from the margins.
(3.2 M CO2 tons / 320 M headphones = 0.01 CO2 tons / headphone)
According to another commercial tree-planting campaign, planting 43 trees offsets 10,000 kilograms of CO2. From this, one could deduce that planting one tree offsets 233 kilograms of emissions. At this point, the numbers get mixed up, but in other words, each pair of headphones you buy from us saves the world by quite a few pairs of headphones.
By buying Valco Noise-Cancelling Headphones, you offset more than you consume.
In fact, you offset everything you can buy from us. And if our numbers are completely off, you still offset something. By buying the company enough pairs of headphones, you can offset the CEO's trip to Pattaya. If you want, you can also offset adultery and a small penis.
No, seriously, environmental protection isn't indulgence trade. So don't think that now that you've offset, you can do whatever you want. In any case, these are probably the only headphones in Finland whose emissions have been compensated in some way.
Compensation and Entrepreneur Employment
It would be completely wrong to lie and say that we are doing this solely out of the goodness of our hearts. The goal of this greenwashing campaign is mainly to sell new headphones, but of course, also to save the world in our own way.
The more headphones sold, the closer we are to the ultimate goal, which is building the Death Star in orbit.
As a bonus, we promise to film footage of the planting events for social media. So, you can sit on your couch, drink lemonade, and listen to your favorite music through great headphones with a clear conscience, while laughing at the entrepreneur being eaten by moose flies in the forest.
