Product description

Originally we tried to stay alive by reselling warranty returns from a spectacularly nasty chip defect back to customers. Turns out people are actually pretty happy to buy used headphones at a discount, as long as the warranty is still valid.

You can now trade in your used VMK20 headphones with us and get a reasonable credit toward a new pair. We take these headphones in, repair them, clean them, service them, make sweet love to them, and put them up for sale right here, just for you.

Warranty-serviced units go up for sale at whatever pace Hannes manages to fix them, so if we're sold out right now, check back in a few days.

Colour options pop up pretty randomly depending on what comes in as trade-ins. If you really want a specific colour, you're better off ordering a new pair here.

45-hour battery life

Forty-five hours is long enough that you'll forget when you last charged them. Music at the office, a podcast on the way home, a game in the evening, and the same again tomorrow. And the battery is still going. This is the kind of headphone life where charging anxiety doesn't exist.

Don't take our word for it. Take theirs.

We could tell you how great we are, but that would be a bit suspicious. So we'll let our customers do the talking instead. Reviews are real. Not every product has enough reviews yet, but the ones that do show up first. Photos are taken by customers themselves, and unfortunately it shows.

Do your wallet a favour, save the planet.

2021 was a pretty rough year for us. First off, right from the start of the year the factory couldn't deliver headphones on time because of component shortages. When they finally arrived in the spring, a huge number of them came with a faulty chipset straight from the factory.

This kicked off a brutal warranty circus. At first we just tried to swap the headphones for new ones quickly to keep customers happy, but that didn't work. We shipped a truckload of new headphones, but since we didn't know the actual cause of the problem, plenty of those were faulty too, and customers were rightly pissed off.

You can read more about it in these two blog posts:

The Death Spiral

Aftermath of the Death Spiral

By now pretty much every customer has a working pair of headphones, but back then we were left with a huge pile of memory-defective headphones from all the swaps. So we fixed them up and sold them as refurbished units, just to keep the company from going under entirely.

As it turns out, the refurbished units were absurdly popular and pretty much every returned and warranty-swapped pair found a new owner. Off the back of that, we've decided to also accept headphones as trade-ins against new ones. One person's junk is another's treasure. Especially when it's been refurbished.

Great products without the dead weight*

Did you know that almost all the electronics inside headphones come from a handful of giants?

Everything else is just smoke and sales talk.

A small maker like Valco can use the exact same top-tier components as the famous mega-corporations stick in their pricier models.

We just don't have a thousand employees to feed, a Manhattan skyscraper to pay for, or a CEO with a private jet (yet).

Which is why we can give you the best bang-for-buck on the market.

And what happens after you've bought? Our customer service and Valco's in-house repair team make sure our products last. And if you fancy a change, you can trade your old Valcos back in to us. Try doing that anywhere else.

At the end of the day, the point of all this is simple. We sell headphones to fund our own Death Star, so we can rule the galaxy.
